So you’ve decided to invest in physical gold or silver bullion. But with so many types and sizes to choose from, where do you start? Bigger? Smaller? Let’s find out why a 1 Oz coin is the best option for most investing needs.
WHY INVEST IN 1 OZ GOLD AND SILVER COINS – COINS OR BULLIONS?
A quick browse on our website, nubex.my, tells you that there are many different ways people are able to store their wealth via gold and silver. There are bullion cast bars, minted bars, 1 oz proof coins, fractional coins, dinar coins, dirham coins and so on.
Before deciding which of these options would suit you best, you must first determine your own goals for investing. If you’re preparing for worst-case scenarios (i.e. financial meltdowns, or the collapse of all currency systems as we know it), coins would be a much better option as they’re easy to carry around and easy to trade. On the other hand, if you’re after value for money, bigger denomination bullion bars are the way to go as their premiums would be significantly lower, and you’ll have more amounts of physical gold and silver in your hands from the purchase.
WHY INVEST IN 1 OZ GOLD AND SILVER COINS – SO WHY 1 OZ?
In short, 1 oz gold and silver coins represent the best of both worlds – they’re still small enough to carry around or to be traded as they are minted in coin form, while at the same time allowing you to pay the lowest possible premium on gold (between 3.5% – 5% over spot) or silver (between 12% 18% over spot), as far as coins go.
1 oz coins are also the most common form of bullion proof coins minted around the world, with every established minter from the Royal Canadian Mint to the U.S. Mint minting their own variations. This makes 1 oz coins the most easily tradable form of bullion in terms of size, weight and convenience of storage.
This particular weight of coins will also allow you to be able to purchase gold and silver consistently over the long run, due to a much lower entry price for both metals, while their value will steadily soar above the amount of paper money spent over time.
Then there’s also the factor of counterfeiting – it’s just more intuitive and cost effective to counterfeit larger weights and amounts, which is why it is less likely for 1 oz coins to be counterfeited. That’s not to say that there aren’t any instances of counterfeiting with 1 oz coins, but overall, 1 oz coins are still the much safer bet as far as authenticity goes.
WHY INVEST IN 1 OZ GOLD AND SILVER COINS – WHAT TO LOOK FOR
While you’re free to purchase any brand of authenticated gold or silver 1 oz coins, you might also want to consider the ease of tradability the coin has to offer.
First and foremost, like many other forms of commodity, brands DO matter…especially if you’re thinking about trading on an international scale. Products from well established brands like the Royal Canadian Mint, the U.S. Mint or PAMP Suisse will be more universally recognized than products from other countries and minters. Having more recognizable products will help you find buyers a lot more easily, wherever you are in the world.
If these are not an option, then you must at least consider some other factors. For one, ensure that the weight and purity of the product is clearly stamped on the coin itself in English. So at the very least, even if the minter is not recognized, you’ll at least have proof that you’re carrying 1 oz of pure 999 gold or silver.
